I've decided that when I'm 90, I want the 90 year old boys in the nursing home to say "those are fabulous! Are they real?". Of course I'm talking about my teeth.
I've always had fabulously quirky teeth. Quirky in a good way in that they are really strong and impervious to cavities and decay. However, they haven't always been the straightest or whitest. I once told a boy in a bar, as an excuse, that I couldn't kiss him because I had gingivitis. It TOTALLY worked.
As a child, I was rather sickly and was administered tetracycline as part of my medication that stained my adult teeth and malformed others. And though some may argue this point, my mouth was not big enough for all my teeth and as they erupted they crammed themselves in as best they could. To add to the quirkiness, my molars came in late and because of this I couldn't get braces until I was 16. At the time, I couldn't see the value of having them for my Senior Year in high school. My lord, the horror of horrors!
After living through college with my crooked teeth, (and they weren't pretty in a Jewel sort of way), I finally got braces, bleaching and some teeth shaping when I was in my mid 20's. They really did look fabulous and still do! (Thanks to Dr. James A. Tetz in Springfield Ohio. If you need an orthodontist, I highly recommend him!)

But now that I've entered my 40's, I'm really starting to get anxious about losing them. I haven't always taken the best care of them with my biggest downfall being the FLOSS! Oh how I hate the floss. When my teeth were crooked, I couldn't even get the floss in between as they were so jammed in there. Now, don't get the wrong idea, brushing has always been part of the routine, but flossing has been sporadic at best.
I hear that you should only floss the teeth you want to keep, so as part of my Year of Living Fabulously, I'm making an effort to really show my teeth the love. So far, so good. three days of consistent flossing and I'm excited about it! In turn, this makes me happy, smile more and project more positive energy into the Universe!!
I've been using these
dental picks with preloaded floss. They are fabulous and convenient to use. Our dentist at the Sugarhouse Dental Spa in Utah (amazing place by the way) says they aren't the best, but better than nothing. Baby steps I say, baby steps.
Now, you might think that all this about teeth is MINUTIAE, and without the big picture you would be right. But from my perspective this is the tip of the iceberg of analyzing "self". The beginning of looking inward and changing the smallest things to upset the status quo and begin to push toward the fabulous person you deserve to be. I guess I'm just starting it this year one dental pick at at time.
What small thing can you change today to make you feel fabulous? Think about it.
Fabulously Yours,
Dawn
